CLINTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's and men's cross country teams competed at the Hamilton Invitational Saturday afternoon. The women placed fifth overall while the men finished ninth. Junior
Kelsey Ryan and senior
Tim Rutan were the first Golden Flyers to cross the finish line in their respective races. Ryan placed 20th overall in the women's 5-kilometer race with a time of 20:05. Rutan finished the men's 8-kilometer race in 30th place with a time of 30:23.
In the women's race, Ithaca claimed the top spot with 29 total points. The Bombers were followed by Roberts Wesleyan and New Paltz with 55 points and 70 points, respectively. New Paltz claimed the title in the men's race with a total of 65 points. New Paltz edged Hamilton, who finished with 68 points. Royal Military College placed third in the men's race with a total score of 110 points.
Following Ryan, freshmen
Meleana Spera placed 36th (20:47) and
Michaela Gildemeyer placed 38th (20:51). Junior
Kayleigh Olive was the Golden Flyers' fourth runner across the line in 50th place (21:22) while sophomore
Bethany Althaus rounded out Nazareth's top-five in 53rd place (21:28). Junior
Candice Colosi and senior
Michelle Gillette finished just behind Olive and Althaus. Colosi placed 56th (21:33) while Gillette had a 63rd-place finish (21:55).
Sophomore
Matt Fedrizzi was second for Nazareth in the men's race as he finished 33rd with a time of 30:33. Junior
Josh Strough placed third for the Golden Flyers in 49th place (31:32). Strough was followed by sophomore
Jake Lafaver in 63rd (32:19), senior
Dan Polino in 82nd (33:23), and sophomore Robert DeWald in 94th (35:15).
The Golden Flyers are in action again Saturday, October 22nd when they travel to St. Lawrence for the NYSCTC Championships.
