PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Sophomores Luke Elston and James Wheeler and senior Andrew Alaimo each delivered second-half goals for visiting Nazareth to break a scoreless tie Friday as the Golden Flyers defeated St. John Fisher, 3-0, in an Empire 8 Conference men's soccer match at Growney Stadium.

The shutout win was the second in a row for the Golden Flyers, who improved to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in conference matches. Fisher is 3-7-1 and 1-2-1.

After a scoreless first half, Nazareth asserted itself early in the second half with the first two goals coming less than five minutes apart. In the 62nd minute, sophomore Ryan Foley beat a Fisher defender along the right endline and was able to loft a cross over the head of Fisher keeper Kyle Metcalfe. Waiting on the goal line to tap the ball into the open goal was Elston, who was credited with his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

In the 67th minute, following a collision outside the Fisher penalty area,  Nazareth was awarded a free kick from about 20 yards away. Wheeler took the kick and blasted a shot into the upper left corner for his fifth goal of the season.

The third goal was Alaimo's first of the season as he one-timed a cross in the 86th minute from the right wing by freshman Kory Seibt, who gained the assist for his first career point.

Nazareth had a 16-11 edge in shots and Nazareth senior goalie Kyle Connolly made five saves to produce his second straight shutout and sixth of his career.

Nazareth is off this weekend, but is back home Monday to host Hobart in a non-conference game at 4 p.m.
