ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth split a pair of non-league volleyball matches Saturday during the second day of competition at the New York Regional hosted by the University of Rochester. With their 2-2 weekend record, the Golden Flyers stand at 24-12 overall heading into next week's Empire 8 Conference Tournament.

Nazareth lost a close five-set match to St. Lawrence by scores of 25-15, 25-29, 21-25, 23-25, 15-13 and then rebounded with a three-game sweep of Brockport by scores of 25-14, 27-25, 25-20. The Brockport win was career victory No. 200 for Nazareth coach Cal Wickens, now in his ninth season with the Golden Flyers. His overall reecord is 200-134.

Against the Saints, freshman Maria Allocco, recently honored as Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year, posted a career-best 16 kills in 26 hitting attempts for a .500 percentage. Junior Amy Johnson added 11 kills and 14 digs and senior Ashlee Travis had nine kills.

Nazareth had 86 digs in the match overall with junior Brittany Crocetti accounting for 28 of them and senior Leah Farrell 16 more. Junior Aubrey Cooke had 44 assists.

In the Brockport match, four different players had seven kills each in Cooke, Travis, Farrell and freshman Kassandra Buseck. Cooke and Crocetti each had 15 assists with Farrell, Crocetti and freshman Katherine Race contributing seven digs.

Nazareth, seeded second, plays again Saturday against third-seeded Stevens in the first round of the E8 Tournament at Elmira at 3:30 p.m. Top-seeded Elmira plays fourth-seeded St. John Fisher at 1 p.m. in the other first-round match. The championship match is Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
