CANTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's cross country team competed in the 2011 NYSCTC Championships Saturray at St. Lawrence. The Golden Flyers placed seventh overall. Junior
Kelsey Ryan was Nazareth's first finisher. Ryan finished the women's five kilometer race in 35th place with a time of 20:53, averaging 4:11 per kilometer.
St. Lawrence claimed the win in the women's race, totaling 24 points. Following St. Lawrence was Ithaca (56 points), Rochester (86 points), Rensselaer (109 points), RIT (126 points), and Hamilton (151 points). Nazareth finished with 219 points ahead of Union (233 points), Utica (234 points), and Cobleskill (279 points).
Ryan was followed by freshman
Meleana Spera (77th overall) in 21:06. Placing in third for Nazareth was sophomore
Kayleigh Olive (122nd overall) in 21:21. Also competing for Nazareth were freshman
Michaela Gildemeyer in 168th place (21:23), sophomore
Bethany Althaus in 219th place (21:40), senior
Michelle Gillette in 274th place (22:00), and sophomore
Lauren Heitzhaus in 330th place (22:02).
Nazareth will compete at Saratoga in the Empire 8 meet on October 29th.
