Lachell top finisher at Naz Invitational

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Freshman Jennifer Lachell finished in a tie for 14th place with rounds of 104 and 103 for a 207 total as Nazareth's women's golf team completed their fall schedule at the Nazareth Invitational. Both rounds were played at Irondequoit Country Club.

Nazareth finished fifth in the team standings with a score of 871. Alleghney won the team title with a stroke total of 686. Ithaca (706), St. John Fisher (785) and William Smith (857) also competed. Allegheny's Lauren Hammell was the top individual with scores of 79 and 83 for a two-day total of 162, nine shots better than Ithaca's Sharon Li (172).

Other competitors for Nazareth were sophomore Jamie Schmidt (101-107 -- 208); junior Mindy Fowler (113-114 -- 127); sophomore Alyssa Moffat (115-114 -- 229); and sophomore Corey Lambert (153-140 -- 293).

In the men's tournament, senior Tyler Woodward finished in a tie for second place individually to lead Nazareth's men's golf team to a sixth-place finish. Monday's second round was played at Irondequoit Country Club on the heels of Sunday's first round at Monroe Golf Club.

Woodward shot 3-over-par 74 on Sunday at Monroe and followed with a 79 at Irondequoit to finish with a 153 total, one shot behind St. John Fisher's Thad Wier III (74-78 -- 152). Nazareth had a two-day team score of 667, good for sixth place in the eight-team field. St. John Fisher won the team title with a score of 623, 19 strokes ahead of runner-up Susquehanna (642). Allegheny (648), Ottawa (653), Roberts Wesleyan (657), Hobart (669) and Monroe Community College (696) also competed.

Other Nazareth competitors were freshman Dan Strack, who had scores 85 and 82 for a 167 total to tie for 21st place; sophomore Nick Polito (79-91 -- 170); senior Peter Savino (87-88 -- 175); senior Colin Doran (92-85 -- 177); junior Jay Stith (87-94 -- 181); sophomore Greg Nelson (95-93 -- 188); junior Zack Martin (99-91 -- 190); and freshman Andrew Lund (101-90 -- 191).
