Nazareth falls at Stevens, 2-1

HOBOKEN, N.J. --  Host Stevens scored the game-winning goal with less than 19 minutes to play in regulation Saturday as the Ducks defeated the Golden Flyers in an Empire 8 men's soccer match, 2-1.

The defeat was the fourth straight for Nazareth, which dropped to 4-5 overall and 1-2 in the Empire 8. Stevens improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the E8.

Stephen Dunbar netted the game-winning score for the Ducks off an assist from Curtis Stecyk in the 72nd minute to snap a 1-1 tie. The Ducks had dominated much of the play by outshooting Nazareth 22-7 and gaining a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.

Stevens led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Zach Adler off an assist from Edward Rupp, but Nazareth tied the score in the 63rd minute as Shane Mead scored his first career goal.

Senior goalie Kyle Connolly made 11 saves for Nazareth, while Paul Killian made two for the Ducks.

Nazareth returns to action Wednesday with a non-conference road game at Geneseo at 4 p.m.
