ITHACA, N.Y. -- Nazareth opened its indoor track and field season for both men and women Friday as the Golden Flyers competed at the Southern Tier Open at Cornell.

Among the top performers were freshman Jake Lafaver, who ran well in the 200- and 400-meter dashes, posting times of :24.59 and :53.13 respectively. Also In the men's meet, senior Matt Morales ran the mile and posted a time of 4:54.13 and junior Dan Polino leaped 12.67 meters (41 feet, 7 inches) in the triple jump. Junior Tim Rutan ran 1:18.46 in the 500-meter run.

In the women's meet, senior Kristi Custer triple jumped 10.08 meters (33 feet, 1 inch) and junior Heather Irish went 9.84 meters in the weight throw (32 feet, 3 1/2 inches).

Sophomore Katie Wyant made her first track and field appearance, competing in the 400- and 800-meter runs. She ran 1:08.06 in the 400 and 2:48.00 in the 800. Sophomore Lauren Jamieson ran the mile in 5:52.48.

Nazareth competes again Saturday at the RIT Open.
