Nazareth splits 2 at Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. -- Nazareth's volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday during the first round of the Red Dragon Classic at SUNY Cortland. The Golden Flyers lost a four-set match to host Cortland 25-20, 22-25, 25-11, 25-18, the rallied to claim their first victory of the season by outlasting Buffalo State in five sets. Scores were 25-10, 23-25, 23-25, 25-17, 15-13.

The Golden Flyers, now 1-2, play St. Lawrence Saturday at 10 a.m.

Against Cortland, senior Kristi Custer had 10 kills and two aces and sophomore Ashley Cooke had 11 digs. Junior middle Ashlee Travis had six kills and three blocks.

In the Buffalo State match, Custer amassed 16 kills and sophomore setter Brittany Crocetti had 37 assists. Sophomore Mindy Niebuhr had eight kills and two blocks.
