ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's cross country team turned in a fifth-place finish Saturday at the Harvey F. Anderson Invitational hosted by Roberts Wesleyan.
Sophomore
Kelsey Ryan set the pace for the Golden Flyers on the 5-kilometer layout as she finished in 10th place individually with a time of 20:02.82. Nazareth finished with 102 team points. University of Buffalo won the meet with 44 points, followed by Rochester (60), Gannon (87) and Mercyhurst (98).
After Ryan, Nazareth's next four finishers were bunched together in places 21, 22, 24 and 25. Freshman Katie Piechowiak ran 20:37.13, followed by sophomore
Kelsey Mash (20:39.15); freshman
Bethany Althaus (2:41.51) and junior
Michelle Gillette (20:47.08).
The Golden Flyers finished fourth in the men's race with 111 points. They trailed only Rochester (17), Mercyhurst (70) and Gannon (77) and were two points in front of Roberts Wesleyan (113).
Senior
Matt Morales finished in fifth place on the 8-kilometer terrain in 26:49.35 -- 17 seconds behind the winner, Yuji Wakimoto of Rochester.
Nazareth also had junior
Peter Fekete in 25th place (27:36.68); junior
Tim Rutan in 36th place (28:30.43); sophomore
Josh Strough in 48th place (29:27.31): and freshman
Jake Lafaver in 53rd place (30:59.80).
