UR outlasts Nazareth in 5

Golden Flyers play in E8 crossover this weekend

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- They were meeting for the second time in four days and again the match went the full five sets. Only difference is that University of Rochester won this time as the Yellowjackets outlasted the Golden Flyers in women's volleyball. Scores were 20-25, 25-17, 28-30, 25-20, 16-14.

Nazareth, which defeated UR in a wild five-setter Sept. 17 at the RIT Invitational, dropped to 5-9 with the defeat. UR improved to 8-5. The match was filled with highs and lows for the Golden Flyers, who rallied from a 24-18 deficit to win the third set 30-28. They were two points away from winning the match in the fifth set, but couldn't hold a 13-9 lead and ultimately lost 16-14.

Senior Kristi Custer had a strong hitting night for the Golden Flyers with 16 kills against just two errors in 44 attempts for a .318 percentage. Junior Ashlee Travis added 11 kills in 18 attempts for a .556 hitting percentage.

Graduate student Carra Vanderstyne contributed 10 kills, five aces and 14 digs and senior Megan Rogers amassed 22 digs. Sophomore setter Brittany Crocetti had 10 digs and 45 assists.

Nazareth resumes its schedule Saturday and Sunday for the first wave of the Empire 8 Conference Cross-over at RIT. The Golden Flyers play Alfred and Hartwick Saturday and then St. John Fisher and Ithaca Sunday.
