ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's volleyball team won a pair of pool-play matches Friday for a successful first day at the 22nd annual RIT Invitational.
The Golden Flyers improved to 5-6 overall with a three-set triumph over Brockport (25-21, 25-17, 25-12) and a five-setter against University of Rochester (25-21, 23-25, 22-25, 27-25, 15-13).
The Golden Flyers produced a fine .442 hitting percentage against Brockport with 40 total kills against just six hitting errors. Junior
Ashlee Travis had eight kills in 12 attempts and sophomore
Amy Johnson had six kills in 10 swings. Senior
Kristi Custer had a team-best 10 kills with four digs. Sophomore setter
Brittany Crocetti had 39 assists and four kills.
In the Rochester match, the Golden Flyers outlasted the Yellowjackets as Johnson produced a team-best 13 kills in 30 attempts for a .433 hitting percentage. Custer, Travis and
Megan Rogers each had nine kills and Crocetti amassed 49 assists. Rogers also had 13 digs.
Nazareth plays Potsdam Saturday at 12 p.m.and then would play a second match at either 3 or 5 p.m.
