Flyers drop volleyball opener

Nazareth at Cortland tournament this weekend

GENESEO, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's volleyball team had a bumpy start to its 2010 season Wednesday as the Golden Flyers dropped a three-set non-conference match to host Geneseo. Scores were 25-23, 25-21, 31-29 in favor of the Blue Knights. The match was the season opener for both teams.

Graduate student Carra Vanderstyne paced Nazareth with 12 kills. Sophomore setter Brittany Crocetti contributed 32 assists and nine digs. Senior Megan Rogers had 16 digs and junior Ashlee Travis had eight kills.

Senior Krista Frielinghad 17 kills with a .273 hitting percentage and first year Noelle Morrison dished out 29 assists to pace the Blue Knights. Junior Kat Strickland added seven kills, sophomore Laura Galvin added 23 digs and sophomore Megan Reed totaled six blocks.

Nazareth returns to action Friday against Cortland at the annual Red Dragon Invitational.
