ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Sophomore Kelly Kocher tallied 10 strikeouts for host Nazareth to lead the Golden Flyers to an 8-0 victory over RIT in game one of Friday afternoon's Empire 8 Conference doubleheader. The second game belonged to the Tigers who defeated Nazareth 8-0. Sophomore Casey Mathers finished the first game with three hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored.

Following the split, the Golden Flyers' record stands at 15-21 overall and 5-9 in conference games. RIT's record moves to 16-18 overall and 5-7 in the Empire 8.

The Golden Flyers claimed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when junior Katie Valerio singled home sophomore Casey Mathers.

Nazareth stretched its lead to 4-0 in the next inning. Sophomore Heather Irish led off the inning with a single and advanced to second following an RIT error. Irish advanced to third when senior Kelley Horbal singled to center, then scored on a wild pitch. Horbal eventually scored thanks to a sacrifice fly by sophomore Brittany Patenaude. After earning a walk, senior Polly Muehlenkamp scored on a two-out double by Mathers.

The Golden Flyers secured the victory with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Horbal began the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice by Muehlenkamp. After a one-out single by freshman Kaitlin Graham advanced Horbal to third, Horbal scored on a double by Patenaude, which also moved Graham to third. Mathers stretched Nazareth's lead to 7-0 with a single to score Graham and Patenaude. Freshman Mandy Weakley ended the game with an RBI single to score Mathers.

The Tigers surged to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of game two. Megan O'Connell earned a lead-off walk and eventually scored RIT's first run on a sacrifice fly by Emily McPherson. Michelle Tabisz had a two-out single then scored following a single by Tori Nadow. Nadow tallied the Tigers' third run when Cole reached on an error.

Nadow stretched RIT's lead to four runs in the third inning when she singled, then scored on a base hit by Brittany Kemp. The Tigers extended their lead to seven runs in the following inning. Shannon McCormick scored on a ground out to second base for RIT's first run of the inning, then McPherson hit a two-run homerun to center field.

The Tigers won the game in the fifth inning when McCormick scored on one-out single by Emily Courtney.

Kemp pitched a one-hit shutout to earn the victory for RIT. She finished with six strikeouts. Mathers recorded one strikeout for Nazareth in the loss.

The Golden Flyers close the regular season with a non-conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon against Keuka. The first game begins at 1 p.m.
