ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth seniors
Jennifer Linnan and
Steve Trobert are the recipients of the 2010 Bill Carey Sportsmanship Award. The award recognizes fair play and athletic achievement.
Linnan, of Hammondsport, N.Y. and a graduate of Hammondsport High School, is a four-year catcher for Nazareth's softball team. Due to a broken bone in her hand, Linnan has been unable to play during the current softball season. In 2009, she batted .262 with 11 hits, including four doubles. During the 2008 season, Linnan batted 3.14. She tallied 16 hits, nine runs scored, and 10 RBIs. Linnan held a .213 batting average in 2007. She also totalled 13 hits and 15 RBIs in 2007.
Trobert, of Jamesville, N.Y. and a graduate of Fayetteville-Manlius High School, is a four-year member of the men's tennis team. Trobert has continued to progress throughout the current season. In the 2008-2009 season, he recorded two victories at second singles and added three victories at first doubles with teammate
Adam Landry. During the 2007-2008 season, Trobert won five times at fourth singles and eight times at second doubles
. He went 9-11 in singles matches and 5-13 in doubles during the 2006-2007 season.
The Sportsmanship Award is named for Bill Carey, former Athletic Director for Nazareth. Carey retired in 1998 after 18 years at Nazareth.
