Nazareth downs Fisher, 8-1

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth boosted its Empire 8 Conference record to 6-1 Thursday as the Golden Flyers dominated St. John Fisher in a men's tennis match, 8-1.

Nazareth improved to 8-7 overall and hosts Stevens Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Golden Flyers' final conference match of the season.

Freshman Ryan McCormick won for Nazareth at first singles and first doubles. He defeated Fisher's Matthew Aquino 6-2, 6-2 at first singles and then teamed with Josh Mulligan for an 8-5 victopry at first doubles.

Mulligan also won at fourth singles, defeating Fisher's Gregory Duffy 6-3, 6-3. Nazareth also won close matches at fifth and sixth singles. Freshman Jeremy Mancus won 1-6, 6-0, 10-8 at fifth singles over Fisher's Daniel Parshall. At sixth singles, freshman Bret Beaver won 7-5, 6-7, 10-4 over Fisher's Christopher Maley. Junior Adam Landy also was a straight set winner at second singles over Timothy Adler 6-4, 6-3.

Landry and Mancus won at second doubles 8-6 over Fisher's tandem of Maley and Duffy. In addition, Beaver teamed with senior Steve Trobert for an 8-6 win at third doubles.
