Ithaca downs Nazareth, 8-1

Golden Flyers host Elmira Sunday

MENDON, N.Y. -- Empire 8 Conference power Ithaca dominated host Nazareth in men's tennis Saturday as the Bombers handed the Golden Flyers their first conference defeat of the season, 8-1. The match was moved indoors to the Mendon Racquet Club.

Ithaca boosted its overall record to 11-2 and its E8 mark to 4-0. Nazareth is 3-1 in conference matches and 5-7 overall.

Freshman Bret Beaver secured Nazareth's lone point with a tiebreaker win at sixth singles. Beaver improved to 8-1 at that position for the Golden Flyers by rallying from a 4-6 setback in the first set to win 6-1 and then 11-9 in the tiebreaker.

Ithaca swept all three doubles matches, the Daniel Wolk and Josh Berggrun each won close singles matches at fourth and fifth singles respectively. Wolk defeated Nazareth's Josh Mulligan 6-4, 6-3 and Berggrun won 6-4, 6-1 over Jeremy Mancus.

Nazareth is home Sunday against Elmira.
