Daley receives community service award

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Former Nazareth men's basketball coach Mike Daley is the 2010 recipient of the McDonald's Community Service Award that is presented annually to a member of the local basketball community who has done exemplary work on and off the court.

Daley won 318 games in 23 seasons as head coach of the Golden Flyers' basketball team before retiring in 2009. Upon his retirement, Daley assumed the role of executive director of the Wendy's College Classic (formerly the JPMorgan Chase Scholarship Tournament) for this past season.

Daley received the award last week as part of the banquet that celebrates the Ronald McDonald Senior all-star games that were played last weekend at RIT.

In addition to his life-long devotion to basketball, Daley has been engaged in several community service initiatives. He has volunteered at St. Joseph's House of Hospitality; Benincasa Hospice Care in Mendon; All Saints Place in Pittsford; Compeer; and St. Joseph's Villa.

Previous winners of the McDonald's Community Service Award include former Nazareth athletic trainer Ray Bell, former Nazareth athletic director Bill Carey and equipment manager Michael Palmero.
