HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Transylvania College of Kentucky topped Nazareth in a competitive men's tennis match Tuesday, 7-2. Nazareth earned points at fourth and sixth singles from freshmen
Josh Mulligan and
Bret Beaver. Mulligan won a close match by outlasting Transylvania's Dalton Main in a tiebreaker 10-8. Beaver won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Nazareth's women's team defeated College of Wooster, 7-2.
Junior
Adam Landry lost a close match at second singles 6-4, 6-4 and freshman
Jeremy Mancus lost in a tiebreaker at fifth singles 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
Nazareth plays again Thursday against Greenville, Ill. at 6 p.m.
In the women's match, Nazareth's top three singles players each recorded victories as the Golden Flyers improved to 7-6 overall.
Senior
Jackeline Martinez rallied to win at first singles by taking a tiebreaker, 10-6, over Wooster's Elissa Lauber. Freshman
Alexandra Vizgaitis and senior
Elizabeth Way each won straight-set matches at second and third singles respectively.
Nazareth also got singles victories from senior
Kelly Noble and junior
Sherrita Wilkins. The Golden Flyers also scored two points in doubles as Vizagaitis and Noble won at second and Wilkins and
Christine Cary won at third.
