ROCHESTER, NY --
Kelly Dunne scored all of her game-high 16 points in the second half Tuesday to lead visiting Nazareth to an Empire 8 Conference win over RIT in women's basketball. Dunne's three pointer with 11:28 left in the game put the Golden Flyers ahead for good, 42-40, as they went on to win 56-45.
Nazareth improves to 11-12, 5-9 in the Empire 8 while RIT fell to 9-11, 3-8. The Golden Flyers committed just nine turnovers in the win and went a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line.
Ashley Gallagher had eight of her 10 points in the first half, leading Nazareth to a 29-24 halftime lead. There were four lead changes in the first and the Golden Flyers led by as many as 10 points.
The Golden Flyers maintained their lead into the second half until RIT went on an eight-point run to take a 38-37 lead with 13:35 remaining in the game. A made layup by
Brittany Tallchief put the Flyers back ahead 39-38. Dunne scored 13 of her game high 16 points in the final 11:28 of the game as Nazareth pulled away for the win.
Dunne was 4-of-7 from behind the three-point arc and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
Brittany Patenaude finished with a team-high 10 rebounds.
Jenee Vanderstyne finished with nine points and also went 4-for-4 from the foul line while
Brittany Wilson finished with seven points and three blocks. Tallchief added six points, eight rebounds, and three blocks.
Nazareth hosts St. John Fisher on February 16 for their final home game of the regular season. That game begins at 6 p.m.
