SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Nazareth completed its men's swimming and diving season Sunday at the Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association championships at Nottingham High School. The Golden Flyers finished 12th in the team standings with 289.50 points. Stevens overtook Union for the team title with 1,157 points to Union's 1,146.

Nazareth had a couple of near misses for school records. The Golden Flyers' 400 freestyle relay team finished 10th by shaving more than five seconds off their preliminary time by going 3:14.41. They were less than a second behind the school record of 3:13.97 that has stood since 2000. Seniors Rob Wortel and #R.C. Weston swam in the event along with sophomore Dan Walton and freshman Jacob Kline#.

Kline also came within striking distance of the school record in the 100 freestyle, but ultimately fell less than a second shy of the mark held by Josh Nellist since 2002. Kline placed 14th overall with a time of :48.48. Wortel# placed 25th in the same event (:48.97) while sophomore Jeff Baxter placed 58th (:54.63).

Freshmen Mike Bidwell placed 22nd in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:18.42. Fellow freshman  Patrick Monachino added a 32nd place finish (2:23.50) and sophomore David Ortiz in 39th place with a time of 2:33.93.

In the 200-yard butterfly, Walton placed 24th with a finals time of 2:08.07 followed by senior Eric Lenhardt in 25th place with a time of 2:06.81. Weston added a 17th-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.27).

In the 1,650 freestyle, freshman Josh Haak finished in 17th place with a time of 17:26.44 and junior Paul Thompson was 24th (17:50.75).
