ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Nazareth swept places 2 through 7 Saturday at the Golden Flyers own women's cross country invitational to easily win the team title with 20 points.
Daemen finished second in the team standings with 74 points, followed by SUNY ESF with 94 and Alfred Tech with 134.
Sophomore
Kelsey Ryan led Nazareth's contingent with a second-place finish in the 4-kilometer race with a time 16:16. Sophomore
Kelsey Mash finished third (16:26), followed by freshman
Kathryn Piechowiak in fourth place (16:28); junior
Michelle Gillette in fifth place (16:30); freshman
Bethany Althaus in sixth place (16:37) and sophomore
Lauren Jamieson in seventh place (16:45).
Keuka's Chelsea Socha won the race in 15:35.
Nazareth also had top 20 finishes from senior
Samantha Hickok (10th place); freshman
Lauren Heitzhaus (14th place); senior
Jessica Stanchus (15th place); senior
Lizzie McAndrew (16th place); and freshman
Kirsten Schoenborn (18th place).
In the men's 6-kilometer race, senior
Matt Morales and junior
Peter Fekete finished first and second respectively as the Golden Flyers finished in second place in the team standings.
Alfred Tech, which had four runners in the top eight, finished first in the team standings with 34 points. Nazareth was second with 49 points and Daemen was third with 85 points.
Morales finished with a time of 21:23 on Nazareth's 6-kilometer layout. He was 26 seconds ahead of Fekete (21:49). Alfred Tech's Ryan Demers and Frank Mastraccio finished third and fourth respectively.
Also competing for Nazareth were junior
Tim Rutan, who finished 10th in 22:28; freshman
Jake Lafaver in 17th place (23:10); sophomore
Josh Strough in 19th place (23:16); freshman Zach Lafaver in 21st place (24:02); and junior
Dan Polino in 23rd place (24:30).
