ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host Nazareth built a three-goal advantage and then held off a late surge by Geneseo Wednesday to take a 3-2 non-conference men's soccer victory over the Blue Knights at Golden Flyer Stadium.

Nazareth boosted its record to 4-6-2 overall, while Geneseo dropped to 5-5-1. The game's start time was delayed for nearly an hour because of an officiating mix-up.

Freshman Ryan Foley was involved in all three Nazareth goals, recording a pair of assists and then scoring unassisted early in the second half.

Nazareth's first goal came before the game was two minutes old. Foley crossed the ball from the left wing and freshman Simon Mounsdon headed it past Geneseo keeper Sam Murphy for his first career goal.

The Golden Flyers built a commanding advantage in the first seven minutes of the second half. In the 49th minute, Foley made another precise cross from the left wing near the end line and senior Rikesh Kotak finished the play with a left-footed shot for his third goal of the season.

Less than four minutes later, Foley scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season as he was contested near the top of the box, but dribbled away to create some space and blasted a shot into the upper right corner of the goal.

Resting on a seemingly safe lead, the Golden Flyers surrendered a pair of goals in the closing minutes to leave the outcome in question. Geneseo's Andy Marzo scored in the 73rd minute off an assist from Ben Ariola and Sam Lentine scored in the 84th minute to slice Nazareth's lead to 3-2.

Geneseo had a 15-12 edge in shots and 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Murphy made six saves for the Blue Knights and Kyle Connolly made seven saves for the Golden Flyers.

Nazareth resumes its Empire 8 Conference schedule Saturday at Alfred at 7 p.m.
