Nazareth defeats Geneseo; falls to Capital

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Golden Flyers' women's volleyball team split their two Saturday matches at the Purple & Gold Invitational, hosted by Nazareth. The Golden Flyers fell to Capital in three sets (25-23, 27-25, 28-26), then defeated Geneseo in four sets (25-19, 21-25, 25-17, 25-21). Senior Kristi Custer tallied a match-high 14 kills and seven service aces in Nazareth's victory over Geneseo.

Following the Purple & Gold Invitational matches, Nazareth's record stands at 10-13. Capital improved to 9-14 with the victory over the Golden Flyers while the Blue Knights fell to 9-15 after falling to Nazareth.

Junior Ashlee Travis and graduate student Carra Vanderstyne recorded eight kills and seven kills, respectively, for Nazareth's attack against Geneseo.  Custer added 11 digs in addition to her 14 kills and seven aces. In the third set, Custer recorded three consecutive kills to extend Nazareth's lead from 5-1 to 8-1.

Sophomore Brittany Crocetti recorded a team-high 25 assists and also had 15 digs, four kills, and four service aces. The Golden Flyers finished with a 16-7 advantage in service aces. Senior Megan Rogers and sophomore Aubrey Cooke each had 18 digs.

Kat Strickland had a match-high eight kills for the Blue Knights. Noelle Morrison accumulated a match-high 29 assists while Laura Glavin tallied a match-high 19 digs. Alex Hughes and Jackie Inserillo also added 11 digs and 10 digs, respectively.

In the Golden Flyers' match against Capital, sophomore Amy Johnson had a team-high 12 kills. Rogers and junior Ashlee Travis each added 10 kills for the Golden Flyers' attack. Cooke and Vanderstyne chipped in with five kills apiece against the Crusaders. Crocetti tallied a match-high 39 assists and added 12 digs. Rogers finished with a team-high 14 digs while Vanderstyne added 11 digs for Nazareth.

For Capital, Emily Heitmeyer recorded a match-high 15 kills, with just one error, on 31 attempts. Tara Luth added 12 kills and Sanaya El-Naggar finished with nine kills for the Crusaders. Alyssa Angle tallied a team-high 37 assists and Elissa Foster accumulated a match-high 28 digs to thwart many of Nazareth's attacks.

The Golden Flyers resume action Wednesday evening with a 7 p.m. match against St. John Fisher.
