ROCHESTER, NY - Hamilton scored with 3:18 remaining in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and defeat Nazareth 2-1. The Continentals, ranked #14 nationally, improve to 10-1 while Nazareth falls to 4-8.
Despite out-shooting Nazareth 23-1, and holding a 15-1 advantage on penalty corners, the Continentals struggled to get a shot past the Golden Flyer defense.
Colleen Callaghan scored with just 2:02 left in the first half off an assist by Catie Torcivia to give Hamilton a 1-0 lead.
Nina Fargnoli answered early scoring just 1:25 into the second half to tie the score 1-1. Fargnoli scored her unassisted goal after dodging her defender and beating the Hamilton goalkeeper Molly Brooks.
Hamilton continued to hammer away at the Nazareth defense and finally beat goalkeeper
Kelsey Evans with just 3:18 left in the second half. Callaghan collected a rebound off of Evans' pads to score her second goal of the game and team leading 14th goal of the season. Sarah Flisnik took the initial shot from the top of the circle and is credited with the assist.
Evans made 14 saves in the loss for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth travels to Stevens Institute of Technology for a conference game on Saturday, October 23 at 11 a.m.
