PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Senior
Michelle Van Slyke emerged Monday as Nazareth's top individual finisher as the Golden Flyers closed out their fall schedule for women's golf with a fifth-place finish at the Nazareth Invitational. Monday's second round was contested at Irondequoit Country Club. Sunday's first round was played at Mill Creek Golf Club in Churchville.
Van Slyke shot 85 Monday to go with an 88 on Sunday for a two-day score of 173 and moved into a tie for seventh place. Allegheny, with the top three individual finishers and four of the top five, easily won the team title with a two-day total of 658. Ithaca (729) was a distant second, followed by St. John Fisher (773), William Smith (805) and Nazareth (814).
Allegheny's Liz Blyth was the individual champion with rounds of 83 and 78 for a 161 total, one stroke better than teammate Hannah Schonau-Taylor.
For Nazareth, in addition to Van Slyke, sophomore
Jenee Vanderstyne finished 13th with scores of 88 and 95 for a 183 total; freshman
Jamie Schmidt was 15th with 95 and 92 for 187.
Alyssa Moffat and
Mindy Fowler also competed and each posted 274 totals.
