ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Visiting Stevens took advantage of an extended first-half scoring drought by Nazareth Saturday as the Ducks defeated the Golden Flyers in women's basketball, 58-44, at the Kidera Gymnasium.

The Ducks improved to 8-3 in the Empire 8 Conference and 11-8 overall. Nazareth lost for the eighth time in 10 games and dropped to 9-11 overall and 3-8 in conference games.

Holding a 7-2 lead following a three-point basket by Kylie Bartlett at the 13-minute mark of the first half, Nazareth went nearly eight minutes without scoring and Ducks surged to a 15-7 advantage on a basket by Victoria O'Connor with 5:38 left.

Nazareth broke the dry spell with a basket by Kelly Dunne and two by Brittany Wilson, but the Ducks pulled away again to take a 25-14 lead at halftime. In the first half, Nazareth made just 5 of 23 field goal attempts (21.7 percent).

Nazareth opened the second half with a 13-3 scoring run to close within 28-27 with over 16 minutes left. Dunne opened the run with a three-pointer and sophomore Katie Kollar hit two long-range shots to close the gap. Brittany Fuller interrupted the run for Stevens by scoring five straight points and the Ducks were safely ahead the rest of the way.

Fuller led all scorers with 16 points to go with seven rebounds. Kathleen Schuckers added 11. Paige Armstrong contributed nine points and 13 rebounds.

Dunne finished with 10 points, six assists and four steals for Nazareth. Kylie Bartlett added eight.

Both teams had low shooting percentages -- Stevens made 16 of 52 shots (30.8 percent) and Nazareth 15 of 52 (28.8 percent) -- but Stevens held a decisive 47-32 rebounding advantage.

The Golden Flyers play again Friday against Hartwick at home at 6 p.m.
