PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Senior Corey McAdam equaled his career high by scoring 38 points and he set a school record by sinking 19 free throws Saturday as Nazareth salvaged a fifth-place finish in the Wendy's College Classic for men's basketball with a 96-84 victory over Brockport.

Nazareth, by winning two of three games in the tournament, improved to 11-5 overall following the consolation game played at St. John Fisher. Brockport dropped to 8-4.

McAdam was one of four Nazareth players to score in double figures during the high-scoring event. Sophomore Jake Fladd finished with a career-high 15 points, while sophomore Jason Corletta and freshman Dan Waldbillig each added 13. Waldbillig also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.

McAdam also scored 38 points this season in a game against Pitt.-Bradford Dec. 30. Against Brockport, he played all 40 minutes and went 9 for 19 from the field and shattered the single-game record for free throws made by making 19 shots in 23 attempts. The previous record of 16 was achieved three times -- twice by Zach Wein and by McAdam in the Pitt-Bradford game. He also grabbed eight rebounds.

Nazareth trailed early in the game before going on a 21-11 scoring run to take a 25-16 advantage on a basket by Tyshun Stephens with 7:55 to go. The lead continued to grow and reached 16 points, 40-24, on a basket by Waldbillig with 1:45 left in the half.

Nazareth settled for a 42-29 advantage at the break, then used an 18-8 scoring run to open the second half to take its largest lead of the game, 60-37, with 15:38 to play. McAdam scored nine of his points during the run and Corletta contributed a three-pointer.

Brockport used a scoring run of its own -- a 21-8 spree over a six-minute stretch -- to cut Nazareth's lead to six points, 73-67, following a three-pointer by Gerald Williams with 5:32 to go. Nazareth answered by scoring seven straight points -- a jumper by McAdam, a free throw by Stephens, a basket by Corletta and two more free throws by McAdam -- to regain control, 80-67, with 4:17 to play.

Brockport's Derek Klein completed a three-point play with 2:08 left to bring the Golden Eagles within seven, 85-78, but Nazareth followed with six straight points -- three each by Fladd and McAdam -- and Nazareth's lead never left double digits thereafter.

Nazareth shot especially well in the second half, hitting 15 of 26 shots (57.7 percent) and 30 of 55 (54.5 percent) overall. Nazareth also enjoyed a 45-30 rebounding advantage. Jermaine Johnson was Brockport's high scorer with 24 points. Klein added 11.

Nazareth is off until next Friday when the Golden Flyers return to Empire 8 Conference play with a home game against Elmira at 8 p.m.
