ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior
Corey McAdam scored 23 points and sophomore
Phil Scaffidi added 15 points and a career-high 12 rebounds Friday as Nazareth defeated Keuka, 72-65, in a men's basketball consolation game at the Wendy's College Classic.
The third-seeded Golden Flyers improved to 10-5 overall while seventh-seeded Keuka dropped to 4-6 following the game played at the University of Rochester Palestra. Nazareth will play again Saturday in the tournament's fifth-place game against Brockport at 1 p.m. at St. John Fisher. Keuka will play Geneseo at Fisher at 11 a.m.
Nazareth trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half, 37-25, following a basket by Keuka's Alex Coleman, who led the Storm with 23 points. Nazareth was able to slice the deficit to seven points by halftime, 40-33, as McAdam sank a pair of free throws with :08 left.
The Golden Flyers opened the second half by scoring the first seven points to tie the score at 40-40. Scaffidi hit a three-pointer to start the run and then added another basket. McAdam's jumper tied the score with 18:22 left.
The game was tied for the ninth and final time at 57-57 with 4:45 left, before the Golden Flyers scored 10 straight points to finally pull away. Sophomore
Ray Foster broke the deadlock with a short jumper, McAdam added two baskets,
Tyshun Stephens added another and
Jason Corletta completed the run with a pair of free throws.
Nazareth held on by sinking free throws the rest of the way. Corletta made three foul shots in the final minute and McAdam and Scaffidi each made one.
McAdam's points were secured on 8 for 14 shooting and were accompanied by six rebounds and four assists. Seven of Scaffidi's rebounds came at the offensive end. He also had five steals. Corletta added 17 points as he went 6 for 7 from the free-throw line.
Nazareth played without 6-foot-11 sophomore
Greg Lothridge, who was out with a neck injury. He is questionable for Saturday.
