NORTH CHILI, N.Y. -- Nazareth's women's basketball struggles continued Tuesday in the opening round of the annual Wendy's College Classic as the top-seeded Golden Flyers were upset by eighth-seeded Brockport, 58-54, at Roberts Wesleyan.

The loss was the fifth straight for the Golden Flyers, who dropped to 7-7 overall. The Golden Flyers made only 17 of 57 shots from the field (29.8 percent) compared to 50 percent (21 for 42) for Brockport, which improved to 3-7 overall.

Nazareth will play again Thursday against Geneseo in a consolation game at the University of Rochester at 1:30 p.m. Geneseo lost to Roberts Wesleyan, 55-42, in Tuesday's second game. Brockport will play Roberts Wesleyan in Thursday's semifinals at 6:15 p.m.

Brockport led most of the game and by as many as 14 points, 41-27, with 14:09 to go. The Golden Flyers worked their way back and closed to within eight, 53-45, on a pair of free throws by Rachel Pirozzolo with 2:14 to go.

Kelly Dunne added two more free throws and Pirozzolo hit another to make it 53-48 with 1:19 left. After Brockport misfired on a pair of free throws, Nazareth's Kylie Bartlett drilled a three-pointer with 1:05 left to bring Nazareth within 53-51.

Brockport stayed ahead as Sarah Alwardt made a free throw and Whitney Smith made two more in the closing seconds. Bartlett hit a second three-pointer with :17 left to draw Nazareth to within 56-54, but Smith secured the win by hitting two more free throws with :10 to go.

Dunne was Nazareth's high scorer with 18 points, which included an 8-for-8 showing at the free-throw line. She also had seven assists and two steals. Brittany Wilson added 13 points with five rebounds and Pirozzolo contributed seven points and six rebounds.

For Brockport, Smith, who played at Nazareth during the 2006-07 season, scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Rachel Csakany had a game-high eight rebounds.
