ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Host University of Rochester scored three unanswered goals during a 12-minute stretch of the second half Wednesday and the Yellowjackets went on to a 3-0 victory over Nazareth in a college field hockey match at Fauver Stadium.
The loss dropped Nazareth's overall record to 1-2. Rochester improved to 2-1 with the non-conference victory.
The game was scoreless until the 39th minute when Rochester's Amanda Case scored off an assist from Christi Bottcher. Just over three minutes later, the Yellowjackets struck again as Anna Dobrzynski scored her first of two goals off a pass from Shayna McKie.
Dobrzynski scored again unassisted in the 51st minute.
Nazareth's best scoring chances were generated by senior
Kelly Flanagan, who had five of the team's 12 shots. Midway through the first half, she broke down the left wing, outpacing a UR defender, but UR goalie Danielle Pearson kicked aside the shot.
With less than 11 minutes to play, Flanagan was stationed at the left post and tried to flip a shot past Pearson, who recovered in time to block the shot and preserve the UR shutout.
Pearson finished with eight saves, including seven in the second half. Junior
Kelsey Evans had five saves for Nazareth.
The Golden Flyers return to action Saturday at home against Brockport at noon.
