Nazareth tops Ohio Wesleyan, 2-1

O'Hara, Flanagan score for the Golden Flyers

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Nazareth College field hockey team improved to 1-1 after defeating Ohio Wesleyan 2-1 on Sunday.  Ohio Wesleyan fell to 1-2 with the loss.

Freshman Kailee O'Hara (Camden, NY) scored her second goal of the season at 22:49 to give the Flyers the 1-0 lead in the first half.  O'Hara scored on a rebound off of Ohio Wesleyan keeper Krista Murray's pads.  The score remained 1-0 through the end of the first half.

Senior Kelly Flanagan (Fairport, NY) scored her first goal of the season to put the Flyers ahead 2-0 at 42:26.  Flanagan's goal also came off a keeper rebound. 

The Battling Bishops' Christa Cocumelli sparked her team's offense with a goal at 55:40.  She was assisted by Lilly Jianas.  However, Nazareth was able to hold on to earn its first win of the season.

Nazareth out-shot Ohio Wesleyan 23-12, and the teams were an even 11-11 on penalty corners.  Nazareth goalkeeper Kelsey Evans (Penfield, NY) finished the game with eight saves while Murray had 13 saves for the Bishops. 

The Golden Flyers return to action on Wednesday, September 9th at Rochester for a 7 p.m. non-conference match-up.
