HERKIMER, N.Y. -- Freshman
Alex Manchev scored for Nazareth late in the second half Tuesday to lead the Golden Flyers to a 1-0 men's soccer victory over SUNY Institute of Technology. The game had to be relocated to Wehrum Stadium at Herkimer County Community College due to unplayable field conditions at SUNYIT.
Nazareth's second straight shutout victory enabled the Golden Flyers to improve to 5-4 overall. SUNYIT dropped to 6-3 overall.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Ryan Platt was credited with an assist on Manchev's goal in the 80th minute as he boomed a punt past the midfield stripe and Manchev one-timed a shot past SUNYIT goalie Kurt Makowski and into the goal for his second score of the season.
Making his second straight start in goal, Platt also made two saves to gain his second straight shutout win. Nazareth also had a 12-5 edge in shots.
Nazareth has a pair of home conference games this weekend at Golden Flyer Stadium. Nazareth plays Elmira Saturday at 1 p.m. and Ithaca Sunday at 12 p.m. Both games will be available on
