ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman
Sarah Eichelberger scored a pair of second-half goals for host Nazareth Wednesday to lift the Golden Flyers to a 3-0 women's soccer victory over St. John Fisher at Golden Flyer Stadium.
The victory, Nazareth's 17th straight over St. John Fisher in women's soccer, lifted Nazareth's overall record to 4-2-1, including 2-0 in the Empire 8 Conference. Nazareth is unbeaten (3-0-1) in its last four games. Fisher dropped to 2-5-1 overall and 1-1 in conference games.
Eichelberger (Pittsford Sutherland) broke open a close game with the first two goals of her career. The first one came in the 62nd minute after she settled a loose ball and chipped a shot from the right wing over the outstretched arms of Fisher keeper Ashley Martin.
She scored again about 12 minutes later after freshman
Chelsea Kuss beat a defender on the endline and sent a cross in front and Eichelberger one-timed a shot into the upper left corner of the goal.
Nazareth took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute when junior
Erica Conte scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season off a pass from freshman
Christine Belding.
Nazareth had advantages in shots (18-10) and corner kicks (7-2). Junior
Hillary Simon made six saves for Nazareth to gain credit for her first shutout of the season and 12th of her career. Martin had five saves for the Cardinals.
Nazareth plays again at home Saturday against Oswego at 1 p.m. (
