MACEDON, N.Y. -- Nazareth's men's golf team hung tough Sunday during the second round of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament at Blue Heron Hills Country Club. The Golden Flyers had two of the top four individual finishers and stood in third place in the team standings.
The Golden Flyers matched their team score from Saturday with a 308 stroke total for a two-day score of 616. St. John Fisher leads the competition with a two-day score of 603. Susquehanna, competing in the E8 competition for the first time, is second with 607. The tournament will be resumed April 17-18, 2010 at Susquehanna Valley Country Club.
Sophomore
Dylan Bedy followed up Saturday's first-round score of 74 with a 5-over-par score of 76 Sunday for a two-day total of 150, good for third place individually. Close behind is freshman
Michael Bufalini, who went 76 and 75 for a 151 total and a tie for fourth place. The top individual is Susquehanna's Mike Mercer, who shot 72 and 69 for a 1-under-par total of 141. Bradley Yates of St. John Fisher is second with a 149 total.
Other Nazareth competitors were senior
Josh Maxwell in a tie for 14th place with scores of 80 and 78 for a 158 total; junior
Ben Herrman in a tie for 16th place with scores of 80 and 79 for a 159 total; and freshman
Jay Stith in 31st place with scores of 78 and 87 for a 165 total.
Nazareth competes again next weekend at the Elmira Invitational.
