ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Nazareth field hockey team defeated visiting Brockport, 3-0, off three second-half goals Saturday afternoon. With the non-conference win the Golden Flyers improved to 2-2 while Brockport fell to 1-3.
Nazareth dominated play for most of the game with a 25-5 shot advantage and a 13-2 advantage on penalty corners. Despite 10 first-half shots, Brockport goalie Jen Allen was able to hold off the Flyers with four saves to keep the game scoreless going into halftime.
It didn't take long for Nazareth to get on the board after the intermission. Just under two minutes into the second
Elise Maryanopolis (Gloversville, NY) scored an unassisted goal to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. Freshman
Lindsey Smith (Cazenovia, NY) scored her first collegiate goal from the top of the circle just three minutes later to put Nazareth up 2-0. Sophomore
Jordan Mitchell (Oneida, NY) rounded out the scoring at 45:24 with her first collegiate goal. She was assisted by freshman Kailee O'Hara (Camden, NY).
Empire 8 Goalie of the Week
Kelsey Evans (Penfield, NY) made four saves to earn the shut-out win. Allen finished with five saves and two goals against and freshman Kasey Schreiner made six saves and allowed one goal in the final 30:21.
The Golden Flyers are on the road September 16 at SUNY Oswego for a 4 p.m. game. They return home Saturday, September 19 to host Stevens Tech in their Empire 8 season opener.
