CANTON, N.Y. -- Nazareth's 2009 men's lacrosse season came to a decisive halt Wednesday at St. Lawrence as the host Saints outscored the Golden Flyers, 14-7, in a first-round NCAA Division III Tournament game.

The Saints defeated the Golden Flyers for the second time this season and improved to 13-3 overall. St. Lawrence visits Middlebury, Vt. Saturday for a second-round game against the Panthers. Nazareth finished its season at 11-7 overall.

The game was tied 2-2 after one quarter before St. Lawrence erupted for eight straight goals bridging the second and third quarters to take a commanding 10-2 advantage. Nazareth rallied to close within 10-5, but St. Lawrence scored the next four goals to pull away again.

Senior Collin Moon led the Saints with four goals. Senior middie Alex Slaussen added three goals and one assist. Moon and Slaussen each scored three times during the decisive eight-goal run that enabled the Saints to pull away.

With the score at 10-2, Nazareth rallied with goals from Scott Castle, C.J. Estes and Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar to draw within 10-5 heading into the fourth quarter. Nazareth's comeback hopes were quickly squashed when SLU's P.J. Santora won the face-off to start the fourth quarter and fed Caldwell Rohrbach for a goal just seven seconds into the period.

St. Lawrence had a 36-35 shooting edge, but the Saints were able to control the tempo by winning 16 of 24 face-offs. St. Lawrence also had 32 ground balls to Nazareth's 23.

Jacobs-Ferderbar finished with three goals for Nazareth and Castle had one goal and two assists. Junior goalie Todd Dermody had eight saves.
