Barlow, Nazarenko make all-region team

All-region teams
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior Lizzie Barlow and junior Lisa Nazarenko are Nazareth's representatives on the 2009 Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Northeast Region all-star team.

Barlow, a first baseman, and Nazarenko, a pitcher/infielder, were third-team selections after helping Nazareth to a 17-17 overall record in just its third season of intercollegiate play.

Barlow, of Cazenovia, N.Y. and a graduate of Cazenovia High School, batted .372 in 86 at bats for the Golden Flyers in 2009 with seven extra-base hits and 12 runs batted in.

Nazarenko, of Victor, N.Y. and a graduate of Victor High School, was Nazareth's leading hitter with a .446 batting average with team highs in home runs (7) and runs batted in (26). She also posted an 8-4 record on the pitcher's mound with 87 strikeouts in 82 innings pitched.

Spring Arbor game
KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Sophomore #Kelly Kocher# turned in another strong pitching performance for the Golden Flyers Thursday and sophomore #Casey Mathers# slugged a two-run homer as Nazareth defeated Centenary of New Jersey in a spring break softball game, 6-0. Nazareth also lost to Spring Arbor of Michigan in the second game, 8-4.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Sophomore #Kelly Kocher# tossed her second career no-hitter Tuesday as Nazareth blanked Skidmore 2-0 in Florida. Nazareth lost its second game Tuesday, 9-0, to Hendrix College of Arkansas.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Sophomore #Kelly Kocher# yielded just four hits and had 15 strikeouts Sunday as Nazareth edged Montclair State, 3-2, in the first of two softball games at the Rebel Games in Florida. The Golden Flyers dropped the second game, 3-2, against Endicott.

Persico honored as E8 Woman of the Year

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Laura Persico, a recent Nazareth graduate and a member of the volleyball and softball teams, has been named the 2009 Empire 8 Conference Woman of the Year. Persico will represent the conference in national balloting for the NCAA Woman of the Year. The honor is given to a student-athlete who excels in academics, athletics, leadership and service.
