ALFRED, N.Y. -- Junior
Nora Davis scored five goals and sophomore
Michelle Cook contributed two goals and three assists Sunday as visiting Nazareth bounced back strong from a disappointing defeat Saturday to defeat Alfred in women's lacrosse, 15-6.
After having a 29-game Empire 8 Conference regular-season win streak snapped by RIT Saturday, Nazareth pounced on Alfred early by scoring five of the first six goals and going on to take a 9-3 halftime lead. The victory enabled Nazareth to improve to 2-1 in the Empire 8 and 6-3 overall. Alfred is 3-3 overall and 0-3 in the E8.
Davis scored three times in the first half, including the first two goals of the game to give the Golden Flyers a lead they would never relinquish. After a goal by Alfred's Michelle Adams brought the Saxons to within 2-1, Nazareth answered with goals from
Kara Kulba,
Stephanie Cash and Cook to go up 5-1.
Cash and Davis each scored again before the first half expired as did
Kelly Lighton and
Chelsey Amidon.
Davis added two more goals in the second half while Cook and Kulba each added their second goal of the game. Senior
Shannon Lattimore and freshman
Lisa Frare also had goals.
Nazareth had advantages in shots (40-14) and ground balls (29-26). Senior
Maggie Mullin had five ground balls and won four draw controls. Senior
Hannah Brennan also had four ground balls. Senior
Maria Fusco played all 60 minutes in goal and had six saves.
Nazareth plays again Friday at Elmira at 4 p.m. and Saturday at Ithaca at 1 p.m.
