Nazareth downs Hartwick, 15-8

Golden Flyers visit Stevens Sunday

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Junior Nora Davis scored three times and added two assists Saturday as visiting Nazareth defeated Hartwick in an Empire 8 women's lacrosse game, 15-8.

The victory snapped a two-game losing streak and boosted Nazareth's overall record to 8-5. The Golden Flyers will bring a 4-2 conference record to Sunday's game at Stevens at 1 p.m. Hartwick is 1-10 overall and 0-5 in the Empire 8.

The Golden Flyers scored the first six goals of the game, including an unassisted score by junior Alyssia Roberts just 13 seconds into the contest, and they were never seriously challenged thereafter. Davis scored twice and added an assist in that stretch. Roberts added a second goal and Stephanie Cash had two assists as Nazareth built a commanding advantage.

The Hawks got four goals from Emily Walsh, including two consecutive in the second half to bring Hartwick to within 11-7 with 4:56 left. Michelle Cook scored for Nazareth 27 seconds later to initiate another three-goal burst to bring Nazareth's lead to 14-7with 2:44 to play.

Cook, Roberts and Stephanie Lattimore each had two goals for Nazareth. Cash contributed a goal to her two assists while Megan O'Donnell, Alyssa Whelan, Maggie Mullin, Melissa Brennan and Kara Kulba each scored once.

Senior Maria Fusco started and played most of the game in goal and had four saves. Junior Ann Sessler had two saves.

Nazareth had 38 shots, 28 ground balls and 16 draw controls. Mullin had a game-high six draw controls.
