Ithaca blanks Nazareth in season finale

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Host Ithaca finished the men's tennis season unbeaten in Empire 8 Conference matches as the Bombers blanked Nazareth, 9-0, in the teams' final regular-season match.

Ithaca improved to 8-0 in conference matches to clinch the regular-season title and to gain the top seed for next month's conference tournament. The Bombers are 15-3 overall. Nazareth finished its season at 3-16 overall and 2-6 in the Empire 8.

The closest matches came at first and sixth singles as juniors Adam Landry and Dan Matteo each lost second-set tiebreakers. Landry lost to Ithaca's Taylor Borda 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) and Matteo dropped his match to Seth Magnani 7-5, 7-6 (7-0).

At third doubles, the tandem of Colin Doran and Ben Caiella lost 8-6 to Ithaca's team of Daniel Adelman and Andrew Dunnick.

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- Transylvania College of Kentucky topped Nazareth in a competitive men's tennis match Tuesday, 7-2. Nazareth earned points at fourth and sixth singles from freshmen #Josh Mulligan# and #Bret Beaver#. Mulligan won a close match by outlasting Transylvania's Dalton Main in a tiebreaker 10-8. Beaver won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. Nazareth's women's team defeated College of Wooster, 7-2.

Men's tennis falls to Scranton

HILTON HEAD, S.C. -- In men's tennis action Monday, Nazareth dropped a tough 7-2 decision to the University of Scranton. Freshman #Ryan McCormick# and senior #Alex Bodensieck# secured singles wins for Nazareth. The women's team also was scheduled to play Scranton, but the match was postponed due to travel delays.
