Kelly Kocher threw a no-hitter in the first game Thursday and junior
Laura Finan went 5-for-5 for Nazareth in the second game as the visiting Golden Flyers swept a non-conference softball doubleheader at D'Youville, winning by scores of 5-0 and 13-5.
The Golden Flyers improved to 12-10 overall and they host St. John Fisher in a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m. Nazareth also visits RIT for two games Sunday at 1 p.m.
Kocher tossed her second shutout in as many days as she struck out 15 batters to even her overall record at 4-4. She allowed just one base runner on a two-out walk in the fifth inning and struck out the side in each of the first three innings. She had a school-record 18 strikeouts in a 4-0 win at Medaille Wednesday.
Kocher received offensive support from senior
Laura Persico, who went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, and Finan, who had two hits in three at bats. The game was until Nazareth scored three times in the sixth inning and twice more in the seventh. Persico and
Polly Muehlenkamp had run-scoring singles in the sixth and
Lizzie Barlow drove in a run in the seventh.
In the second game, Finan's five hits included two doubles, a triple and four runs batted in as Nazareth pounded out 18 hits. Senior
Jackie DeJoseph added three hits in four at bats and Perisco had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs. Sophomore
Katie Valerio and junior
Polly Muehlenkamp each had two hits. Senior
Christa Harris pitched and gained the victory.
