ITHACA, N.Y. -- Host Ithaca pounded out 31 hits over two games of an Empire 8 Conference softball doubleheader Saturday as the Bombers swept Nazareth by scores of 12-1 and 17-1.
Ithaca improved to 16-10 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Nazareth is 9-9 overall and 3-3 in the Empire 8.
In the first game, Ithaca had 15 hits over four innings off Nazareth starter
Lisa Nazarenko, including three from sophomore Brittany Lillie, who doubled twice and drove in four runs. Lillie drove home two runs for Ithaca in a three-run first inning. She doubled again in the third inning when the Bombers scored eight more times.
Nazareth scored its lone run in the fourth inning on a run-scoring single by
Laura Persico, who had one of Nazareth's two hits.
Kelley Horbal had the other.
In the second game, Ithaca roughed up Nazareth pitchers
Christa Harris and
Kelly Kocher for 17 runs on 16 hits, including a two-run homer by Annemarie Forenza in the fifth inning.
Considerable damage was done long before that, however, as Lillie went 5-for-5, Forenza 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and Caitlin Ryan 2-for-4 with five runs batted in. Ithaca scored five runs in the second and 10 more in the third.
The Golden Flyers got all three of their hits in the first inning as they took a 1-0 lead.

Lizzie Barlow and Persico strung together singles for the only run of the second game for Nazareth.
The Golden Flyers have non-conference doubleheaders Wednesday at Medaille and Thursday at D'Youville before returning home to host St. John Fisher Saturday at 1 p.m.
