ALFRED, N.Y. -- Visiting Nazareth dropped a close men's tennis match to Alfred Friday in Empire 8 Conference action as the Saxons took four singles points and one doubles point for a 5-4 victory over the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth, 3-12 overall and 2-3 in the Empire 8, hosts Hartwick Saturday at 1 p.m.
Alfred won three singles matches in three sets. Connor Houghton defeated Nazareth's
Adam Landry at first singles 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. At third singles, Nathan Garletts defeated Nazareth's
Alex Bodensieck 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. Then at fourth singles, Alfred's Nick Middaugh defeated Nazareth's
Alex Wilczak 2-6, 7-6, 6-2.
Nazareth gained points from Steve Trobert at second singles 6-3, 6-3 and from
Dan Matteo at sixth singles 6-1, 6-0.
In doubles, Nazareth earned a point from Landry and Trobert at first doubles, 9-8. Matteo also teamed with
Colin Doran for a 8-4 victory at third doubles.
