ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman attackman #C.J. Estes
scored three goals and added two assists and sophomore attackman Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar# also scored three times as host Nazareth outscored Geneseo, 14-12, in a non-league men's lacrosse game.
The Golden Flyers, ranked 20th nationally in Division III, improved to 2-0, while 16th-ranked Geneseo is 0-1.
After falling behind 5-3 after one quarter, Nazareth exploded for eight goals in the second quarter to take the lead for good. Nazareth still led 12-7 in the third quarter, but Geneseo rallied to within one goal, 12-11, after three quarters. Nazareth preserved the win with fourth-quarter goals from #R.J. Gringeri# and Jacobs-Ferderbar.
Estes scored all three of his goals in the second quarter, including his second goal of the game off a pass from
Mark DeCirce to tie the score at 5-5 with 11:34 left in the half. After Geneseo regained the lead on a goal by Craig Lange, Nazareth closed the half with six straight goals.
Jacobs-Ferderbar started the string with an unassisted score with 10:07 left. Consecutive goals by
Sean Dennison,
Mike Cummings and
Scott Castle followed before Estes added two more goals to give Nazareth an 11-6 advantage.
Geneseo rallied in the third quarter by scoring five times, including two goals by Mike Cintineo to close the gap to 12-11. Cintineo and DeCirce exchanged scores to open the quarter, then Geneseo scored four times in the final 3:28 of the period -- goals from Lange, Chris Adams, Tom Costanza and Cintineo -- to close within a goal.
In the fourth quarter, Gringeri won the opening face-off for Nazareth, then scored off an assist from Estes to enable Nazareth to regain its two-goal cushion. Jim Fiacco brought Geneseo back to within one with an unassisted score less than a minute later. Jacobs-Ferderbar closed out the scoring with an unassisted score with 11:46 left.

Todd Dermody made seven of his 18 saves in the fourth quarter to help the Golden Flyers stay ahead.
Geneseo led 5-3 after one quarter as Costanza scored twice. Castle, Jacobs-Ferderbar and
Kurt Detwiler scored for the Golden Flyers.
Nazareth had a 43-42 edge in shots and was successful on 18 of 20 clearing attempts. Geneseo had a 37-36 advantage in ground balls. Nazareth's
Kyle McLean won 12 of 21 face-offs and scooped up six ground balls.
The Golden Flyers are off until Friday when they visit Oswego for a non-conference game at 4 p.m. Nazareth then heads to Dallas for two games -- March 16 vs. St. Lawrence and March 21 vs. Western New England.
