Nazareth tops Milwaukee SOE, 3-1

Golden Flyers improve to 17-4

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Freshman Billy Gimello and senior Joe Petzoldt tallied 19 kills and 16 kills respectively to lead the seventh-ranked Golden Flyers to a four-set victory over Milwaukee School of Engineering by the scores of 30-24, 25-30, 30-24, 30-24. Nazareth senior Chris DeHority not only broke his own school record with 23 digs, but he also surpassed 1,000 career digs. DeHority currently has 1,008 career digs.

With the victory, Nazareth improves to 17-4 overall while the Red Raiders drop to 2-10 overall. The Golden Flyers have won 10 of their last 11 matches.

After trading sets, MSOE led 23-20 in the fourth before Nazareth rallied furiously with nine consecutive points to take control. Gimello scored the Golden Flyers' 25th and 26th points with kills, followed by a kill by senior Kelvin Rolle. Rolle and sophomore Hans Schroeder scored Nazareth's 28th point with an assisted block, then Schroeder put the Golden Flyers at the brink of victory. A service error by the Red Raiders gave Nazareth the 30-24 victory in the set.

Junior Brian Bunch finished the evening with 10 kills while Rolle had nine kills, and Ryan Johnsen recorded eight kills. Senior Frank Leahy tallied a match-high 60 assists as Nazareth's primary setter. Petzoldt also added seven digs and a match-high four service aces.

MSOE was led by Max Martin who finished with a team-high 12 kills. Glenn Frazee and Petr Koukal each added 11 kills while Bryce Kingsley recorded 10 kills. Chris Brandt tallied a team-high 43 assists for the Red Raiders. Frazee and Brandt each recorded a team-high 10 digs.

The Golden Flyers are home Sunday for two matches. Nazareth plays sixth-ranked Ramapo at 12 p.m. and Qunicy at 4 p.m.
