Nazareth defeats Hilbert, 3-0

Golden Flyers improve to 16-4

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior Kelvin Rolle and sophomore Chris Mendez combined to tally 24 kills to lead the host Golden Flyers to a three-set sweep over Hilbert by the scores of 30-17, 30-21, 30-19. Rolle recorded a perfect 1.000 hitting percentage as he finished the match with 10 kills on 10 attempts.

With the victory, Nazareth improves to 16-4 overall while Hilbert drops to 3-11 following the loss. Nazareth has also earned the top-seed in the six-team NECVA West Tournament. The Golden Flyers will host the Tournament March 27th and 28th.

The Golden Flyers controlled the match with their effective attacking percentages. Nazareth recorded a .600 percentage in game one, followed by a .615 percentage in game two, and a .435 percentage in game three.
The Golden Flyers were also strong defensively as they forced the Hawks into hitting percentages of .286 in the first set, .130 in the second set, and .162 in the third.

In addition to the kills from Rolle and Mendez, sophomores Hans Schroeder and Will Siwy added seven kills and five kills respectively while freshmen Billy Gimello and Sam Guba each tallied a match-high five digs. Junior Kevin Kirchhoff, who ended the match with his second service ace of the evening, amassed a match-high 26 assists.

Hilbert was led by Robert Gerhard, who tallied a match-high 15 kills. Vincent Amico added 22 assists while RJ Sykora finished with a team-high four digs.

Nazareth hosts Milwaukee School of Engineering Friday evening at 7 p.m. in its next match. The Golden Flyers will also host eighth-ranked Ramapo in a 12 p.m. match and Quincy in a 4 p.m. match on Sunday.
