ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Sophomore
Michelle Cook and junior
Nora Davis each scored five goals for host Nazareth Saturday as the Golden Flyers held off the College of Wooster, 18-13, in a non-conference women's lacrosse game.
The Golden Flyers improved to 4-2 overall while Wooster dropped to 3-3. Nazareth opens the Empire 8 Conference portion of its schedule Wednesday at St. John Fisher at 4 p.m.
Cook and Davis each scored three times in the first half as the Golden Flyers were building a 10-7 advantage. Cook's third goal came off a free-position shot with :01 left in the half.
Nazareth broke the game open by scoring five times in the first 10 minutes of the second half to extend the lead to 15-7. Wooster scored five of the next seven goals to close within 17-12, but Nazareth's Chesley Amidon scored her second goal of the game with 3:39 left to break Wooster's momentum.
Cook finished with two assists to go with her five goals. Junior
Melissa Brennan added two goals and one assist and sophomore
Alyssa Mulheron also twice.
Shannon Lattimore and Megan O'Donnell also had goals.
Mulheron opened the scoring with a free-position shot 50 seconds into the game. After Wooster answered with a goal from Carly Carey, Nazareth scored five of the next six goals to take control. Davis scored three times in that stretch with Cook and Mulheron also scoring.
Sophomore Nina Dine led Wooster with four goals and two assists. Junior Jess Cleveland also scored three times and Taryn Higgins had two goals.
Nazareth had a 32-28 shooting edge and scooped up 17 ground balls. Senior
Maria Fusco played the first half in goal and had six saves. Junior
Ann Sessler took over in the second half and had seven saves. Jamie Dannenberg went the distance for Wooster in goal and had seven saves.
