Kelly Kocher gave up only two hits, but Nazareth lost 1-0 to Kean University of New Jersey Friday during the final day of spring break softball action in Florida. Nazareth also dropped the second game Friday, losing 7-3 to Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Nazareth completed its spring trip to Florida at 4-6 overall.
In the first game, pinch runner Heather Aliotta scored the only run of the game in the third inning after Kocher surrendered two walks and Aliotta eventually scored on an error.
Nazareth advanced runners to third base in both the fourth and sixth innings, but both were left stranded there. Senior
Laura Persico led off the fourth with a single and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Christa Harris. In the sixth inning, junior
Laura Finan reached on an error and advanced on a stolen base and a wild pitch, but didn't score.
Kocher's performance included a career-best 11 strikeouts.
In the second game, the Pointers scored six times in the first two innings against Nazareth starter Cassandra Mathers. Nazareth scored twice in the sixth inning as
Kelley Horbal reached on a walk and later scored on an error. Finan drove in the other run with a single.
Nazareth scored again in the seventh as
Lisa Nazarenko started the inning with a double and scored on a double by
Katie Valerio.
