KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Nazareth's softball team managed just two hits -- one in each game -- Tuesday as the Golden Flyers were shut out twice. Nazareth lost to Wisconsin-Stout in the first game, 7-0, and then dropped a 5-0 decision to Springfield.
Against Stout, senior
Lizzie Barlow managed Nazareth's only hit against pitcher Laura Vanderhoof, a two-out single in the fifth inning. She was the only Nazareth player to reach base as Vanderhoof struck out six.
Senior
Christa Harris pitched the first four innings for Nazareth and allowed six earned runs on nine hits. Freshman
Kelly Kocher finished up with two perfect innings and had four strikeouts.
In the second game, junior
Polly Muehlenkamp had Nazareth's only hit, a third-inning single and was left stranded. Barlow also reached base on a one-out walk in the fourth inning, but she, too, did not advance.
Springfield's Megan Fitzgerald pitched all seven innings for the victory and had three strikeouts. Kocher pitched for Nazareth and surrendered only four hits and struck out eight.
Nazareth if off Wednesday, then plays two more games Thursday -- vs. Millikin at 9 a.m. and Hope at 11.
