NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Host Christopher Newport got the game-winning goal with :06 left in regulation Tuesday for a 9-8 non-conference victory over the Golden Flyers in women's lacrosse.

The loss dropped the Golden Flyers to 2-2 overall. Christopher Newport is 3-2. Kaitlin Quigley's fourth goal of the game off an assist from Liz Klemons proved to be the game-winner. The Golden Flyers had tied the score, 8-8, on a pair of goals from sophomore Michelle Cook in a 15-second span with just over seven minutes left.

Cook finished with five goals for the Golden Flyers, who led 2-1 and 3-2 in the first half before the Captains rallied to tie the score at 3-3 by halftime. Meghan Harkey and Mea Arnold each scored two goals for Christopher Newport.

After Cook tied the score at 6-6 with a goal off an assist from Jennifer Young with 11:43 to play, the Captains regained their two-goal advantage with goals from Harkey and Quigley less than a minute apart. Cook answered with an unassisted score with 7:21 to play and she tied the score with another unassisted score with 7:08 left.

Nazareth had a 26-24 advantage in shots and goalie Maria Fusco made 12 saves for the Golden Flyers. Gayle Robinson made 13 saves for the Captains.

Nazareth is home Saturday for a non-conference game against Rensselaer at 2:30 p.m.
